WHAT:
The Coterie Theatre and Unicorn Theatre will hold combined auditions for professional adult actors
 (18 years of age and older) – Equity and non-Equity – for their respective 2023-2024 seasons.

WHEN:
May 16, May 17, and May 19, 2023 – Reserved for Equity appointments
May 20 and May 22, 2023 – Reserved for non-Equity appointments
Auditions are by appointment only.  No walk-ins permitted.  There will be no alternate
audition times.

WHERE:
Unicorn Theatre, 3828 Main Street, Kansas City, Missouri

CONTACT:
All appointments must be scheduled online. Starting May 1, at Noon (CDT), actors may schedule an individual audition appointment at www.thecoterie.org/auditions or unicorntheatre.org/about-us/#work-with-us.

OTHER:
Actors will be asked to perform two contrasting contemporary monologues (no classical, no Shakespeare); two minutes each; no musical material.  Singing auditions will occur only if called back.  Actors must bring two head shots and two resumes.

  • The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical [musical]

  • Charlie and the Chocolate Factory [musical]
  • Project Daylight [local tour]

Roles to be cast will be both AEA and non-AEA (exception: local tours).

The Unicorn’s 2023-2024 season includes:

  • Native Gardens
  • Macbitches
  • Journey to the Poles of Inaccessibility (World Premiere)
  • Poor Clare
  • Backwards Forwards Back (Rolling World Premiere)
  • H.O.T. the Musical (World Premiere)

Roles for AEA in all shows and some non-AEA roles available.

Both the Unicorn and The Coterie are dedicated to multi-ethnic, non-traditional casting. Persons of color or ethnic origin are encouraged to audition.

MASKING REQUIRED
Two-ply cloth face masks, surgical masks, singer’s masks, and respirators (N95, KN95, or KF94) will be allowed for face coverings. Single-ply face masks, gaiters, and bandanas are not acceptable face coverings. Everyone in the holding room and audition room will always wear a face covering as described above, except for the actor when they are actively auditioning. Face coverings must be worn correctly (covering the nose and mouth).

We encourage members to prepare for their audition at home, to the extent that they can (e.g., get dressed, hair/make-up, etc.) to avoid crowding in bathrooms and dressing rooms.
