Kansas City Actors Theatre Announces Their 15th Season

The Kansas City Actors Theatre is proud to announce its lineup of plays for 2019-2020 at the City Stage in Union Station. This is the company’s 15th season of productions showcasing Kansas City’s own top theatre professionals.

KCAT’s 15th season presents classics both old and new featuring actors new to their stage, familiar favorites, and returning founders. Audiences will want to be sure to catch these touching, emotional, and unforgettable shows featuring many of the best actors Kansas City has to offer.

Morning’s at Seven

By Paul Osborn

Directed by Dennis Hennessy

May 22 – June 9, 2019

City Stage at Union Station

A much-loved, but rarely-performed classic, Paul Osborn’s “Morning’s at Seven” is a charming portrait of life in a small Midwestern town in 1938. The story follows a quartet of sisters living near each other and the comic chaos of their lives and considers some of the unique issues of aging. The show will be directed by the New Theatre’s Dennis Hennessy, who previously directed “The Gin Game” and “I’m Not Rappaport,” and will feature Deb Bluford, Greg Butell, Krista Eyler, Peggy Friesen, Jeannine Hutchings, Gary Neal Johnson, Merle Moores, Victor Raider-Wexler, and Mark Robbins (a KCAT co-founder).

A Doll’s House

By Henrik Ibsen

Directed by Darren Sextro

August 7 – 25, 2019

City Stage at Union Station

“A Doll’s House” will be KCAT’s first production of Ibsen; it’s a show the company has previously targeted, and is happy to finally present. A scandal when it was first staged 140 years ago, it is the story of a married woman seeking to carve out her own place in the world. Still startlingly relevant, this show will be sure to feature the type of actor-first performances audiences have come to expect from KCAT. “A Doll’s House” will be directed by Darren Sextro, who previously directed “Skylight,” “My Old Lady,” and “Crimes of the Heart” for KCAT, and its cast features Hillary Clemens, Todd Lanker, Christina Schafer, Tyler Alan Rowe, Brian Paulette, and Carla Noack.

“Master Harold”… and the Boys

By Athol Fugard

Directed by Gary Heisserer

September 11 – 29, 2019

City Stage at Union Station

The season’s third production is Athol Fugard’s semi-autobiographical account of growing up in South Africa during the apartheid era. A surprising and subtle reflection on how institutional racism and bigotry affects all of those living within it, this production stands to be an unforgettable classic in its own right. Its cast includes Walter Coppage (KCAT co-founder), Arthur Clifford, and Khalif Gillette.

‘night, Mother

By Marsha Norman

Directed by Sidonie Garrett

January 8 – 26, 2020

A Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, Marsha Norman’s “’night, Mother” is the story of a woman driven to her breaking point. A harsh reflection on modern life and its purpose, the psychological exploration of this show will leave an indelible impression. “’night, Mother” will be directed by Sidonie Garrett, who previously directed “A Streetcar Named Desire” for KCAT, and will feature Jan Rogge and Cinnamon Schultz.

Kansas City Actors Theatre is also planning to present a fifth, as-of-yet unannounced production in the course of the 15th Season. That future show is not included in season packages, though subscriber-specific pricing will be made available when the show is announced and sold.

Season subscriptions are available now at http://www.kcactors.org/season-15/ or by calling the Central Ticket Office at 816-235-6222. Early bird pricing on subscriptions, which represents the best deal of the season, is now available to everyone through March 1st.

The Kansas City Actors Theatre is an artist-driven, artist-led company showcasing top talent among Kansas City’s professional theatre community with classic and modern-classic plays. Democratically managed by a group of theatre professionals and community members standing side by side, the Kansas City Actors Theatre is now entering its 15th year.
